Wood

A Bit About Me

I am a lifetime Texan. Shared me father's love of wood and wood working.

I use logs from local trees and create forms that suggest the subject with out restricting the piece to a distinct individual. My dog is a dog not a spaniel or a poodle.

Benn sculpting professionally for 25 years.

I have pieces in the Texas Veterans Museum in Huntsville, Texas. As well as Italy and Mexico.

I start with a log and use every tool known to man, Including a bin of sanders as I hate sanding.

Mesquite used to ne my favorite wood but I grew sensitive to it so I had to quit the Texas Mesquite Association and give up working with it. Now I use pecan, cherry, and basswood from the Kerrville area where I have friends gracious enough to let me harvest downed trees.

My wife is my hardest critic so usually don't ask or listen to her.

I have a site where a lot of my older pieces can be viewed. I do apologize for the quality of the images. I am not a photographer. And I have tried to take better pictures but they don't seem to be any better than just laying the piece on the ground or hanging on the wall. The site is www.facebook.com/artbyjustinhowell.
